During the last century-plus, there has been much time and resources invested in the discovery of more about leadership.
The elusive one is sought after and a highly valued commodity because it improves people personally/professionally and the company’s bottom-line success.
My fifty years of research and study of leadership has proven to me that it’s more complex and sophisticated than practitioners and scholars have been able to grasp.
Let it be no doubt leadership is more than a definition and process. For me, leadership consists of a process, individual influence, groups of people and common goals.
Know these four things gives you a starting point for understanding leadership, the secret sauce comes from your ability to make the above four elements gel and come alive.
Now you need to take a transactional event, discover how to influence (not coerced) groups or teams to move toward the attainment of a set of understandings and bought into goals.
A break down in any of the above four steps will poison the elusive one and once this is done good luck on your repaired journey.
Let’s be clear it’s a distinct difference between a Leader and Leadership. Just something to ponder.
Read, Think and then Act.
Until next time,
Houston out!
